CITY HOUSE

This project is based on the structure, construction, and materiality of the house as well as the connection between architecture, climate, resources, and sustainability. The two vertical houses are located on Enghavevej 6. The neighborhood is a part of Vesterbro's old, characteristic slaughterhouses. The project is designed with the concept of "complex generality" in mind which means instead of using a new design language, recognizable building traditions are utilized and the aesthetics in ordinary elements are celebrated. This project has a simple and traditional form with a more complex interior hidden inside.

Natural materials allow our eyes to penetrate their surfaces and convince themselves of the truthfulness of the fabric. They express their age and history and tell of their origin and human use. Patina added to a building report the experience of time.

In an iconographic collection, I have explored how time and climate affect our materials which underlines the importance of selecting the right materials for a project. Instead of striving for timeless perfection, let natural materials make the buildings more beautiful over time. In my opinion, there is a unique beauty in the imperfect and uncontrolled.
The buildings are constructed of pre-fabricated CLT material. CLT is a relatively new and innovative wood product that provides a very fast and efficient construction process. Both exterior and interior walls, floor decks, and roofs are manufactured in CLT. There is a simple, long-lasting material that allows the house to breathe.

Process sketches show what the area looks like now and how it would look with the two vertical houses.
